If you’re visiting Northumberland, Northumberlandia is a unique public art installation which you won’t want to miss. This is a park which really offers visitors something different.

You’ll find a lady laying on top of the breath taking landscape 100m high in the air. The lady is a quarter mile long and made from 1.5 million tonnes of clay, rock and soil. It is truly quite amazing and a great sight to see, whatever your age or interests.

Another point of interest when you’re at this park is the Shotton Surface mine, which can be viewed from the top of Northumberlandia and is great if you are a fan of big machinery.

Anyone can visit the area, including kids. There are 4 miles of trails around the lady’s body. Please note you’re not allowed to cycle on the paths. You can leave your bike in the visitor centre if you need to.

There’s also plenty of educational value to the trip. You can read all about the restoration of the installation which is part of a long term regenerative plan for the area.

You’ll also find a Visitor Centre in Northumberlandia. Here, you can find a café to stop and have a cup of tea or coffee. You’ll also find light bites like sandwiches which are perfect for middle of the day hunger pangs! During July and August the visitor centre and cafe is open seven days a week from 10am to 4pm.

While you are here you can speak to the Northumberland Wildlife Trust staff who are on hand to answer any questions you might have on the area.

To get there, put the following address in your sat nav: 1 Plessey North Moor, Cramlington, Northumberland, NE23 8AU, England. You can check out their website here. If you are travelling by train, the nearest station is Cramlington approximately 2.5 miles away.
